Chapter 21
Victor’s mind raced as the phone call with Anson ended abruptly. His thoughts were consumed by Eden Bleu, and the unexpected rush of emotions that had surfaced in the moment their hands touched. The mole on her hand—it was too similar to Eden Clement’s. It sent a shiver down his spine.
Victor wasn’t one to believe in coincidences. The more he thought about it, the more he couldn’t ignore the striking similarities between the two women. Eden Bleu was intelligent, capable, and enigmatic, with a presence that was hard to overlook. But those eyes… They reminded him so much of someone he had lost. He couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more to Eden than met the eye.
Determined to get to the bottom of his suspicions, Victor’s fingers tightened around the phone as he made the call to Anson. He needed answers—and fast.
Meanwhile, Eden was walking back to her office, her mind still reeling from her interaction with Victor. She was used to handling tense situations, but this one was different. Her heart was heavy with the weight of her decision, knowing that her revenge against the Gienger family was only beginning. Victor had unknowingly become a pawn in her plans.
She couldn’t help but notice how Victor had looked at her hand when they shook. His reaction had been so sudden and intense. Was it possible he recognized something? She quickly dismissed the thought, trying to focus on the more immediate concerns. She had a job to do, and her family was depending on her.
She reached her desk and sat down, her thoughts swirling as she stared at the computer screen. The information she had gathered over the years about the Gienger family was crucial, but she needed to be careful. If Victor was investigating her, she couldn’t afford to make any missteps.
Her phone buzzed, breaking her from her thoughts. It was a message from Jasper:
“Eden, let me know if you need anything. I’m here for you.”
Eden smiled faintly, feeling a sense of gratitude for her old friend. Jasper had always been supportive, even when things were difficult. She quickly typed a reply:
“Thanks, Jasper. I might need your help soon. I’ll keep you updated.”
As she sent the message, her phone buzzed again, this time with a call. It was an unknown number.
“Hello?” Eden answered cautiously.
“Eden Bleu,” a voice said, smooth and authoritative. “This is Anson Skye. I’m conducting a background check on you as requested by Mr. Alwynn. I need some information, if you don’t mind.”
Eden’s heart skipped a beat. What was going on? She had a sinking feeling that Victor’s investigation into her had already begun.
Victor stood in his office, staring out the window. His mind was still focused on Eden Bleu. There was something he couldn’t quite put his finger on—something that drew him to her. But it wasn’t just her eyes; it was the way she carried herself, her quiet confidence, and the way she had subtly asserted her position in their conversation.
He had underestimated her. She wasn’t just another designer—she was someone with her own agenda. And that, in itself, made her even more intriguing.
But he couldn’t let his personal feelings cloud his judgment. There was a bigger picture at play, and he needed to be sure. He had already tasked Anson with investigating Eden, and now he just had to wait for the results.
He turned back to his desk and opened a file, trying to refocus on business. But his thoughts kept drifting back to Eden, her bright eyes, and the way she had walked out of his office, leaving him with more questions than answers.
This was just the beginning, and Victor had a feeling that things were about to get a lot more complicated.
