Chapter 17
Eden looked around, surprised at the spaciousness and modern design of the office. It was much more than she had expected, especially considering how quickly she had been transferred here. The light from the large windows filled the room, casting a soft glow over the minimalistic yet elegant decor. A large desk sat in the middle of the room, with a few pieces of artwork hanging on the walls. Everything was neatly arranged, giving the space a polished, professional feel.
Lucian walked over to one of the desks and gestured for her to sit. “This will be your workspace,” he said, his tone polite but efficient. “It’s all set up, and you have everything you need. Feel free to let me know if anything’s missing or if you need adjustments.”
Eden nodded, still taking in her new surroundings. This was definitely a big step up from her office at the branch. She was now in the heart of the company, opposite the chairman’s office no less. The thought made her nervous. She wasn’t accustomed to this level of responsibility, especially considering her time at the headquarters was limited to just a month. She glanced at the desk, where a stack of papers and folders were neatly arranged, all related to her upcoming tasks.
“Thank you, Lucian,” she said, trying to sound confident despite the butterflies in her stomach.
Lucian offered a small smile before turning to leave. “If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask.”
Eden sat down at her new desk and exhaled slowly. Her mind was racing. The designs had gone well today, but now there were other concerns. The chairman’s words echoed in her head: You can also lead a design team and come up with new products. Could she really handle all of that? She had only been promoted a few years ago, and now she was being asked to manage not only design but interdepartmental relations and new product development.
But the more she thought about it, the more she realized that she couldn’t afford to back down now. She had to prove herself—both to Victor and to herself. She had come this far, and there was no turning back.
Her gaze drifted to the window, and for a moment, she let herself enjoy the view. The hustle and bustle of the city below seemed far away from the calm of her office. She needed to focus on the present, on what was in front of her. But the nagging worry about Marianne and her uncertain future at the company lingered in the back of her mind.
She could hear the faint sounds of footsteps approaching. Lucian had returned, holding a folder in his hand.
“Director Bleu,” he said, his tone a bit more serious now. “I just wanted to make sure you have everything you need for the upcoming product review. The samples are arriving tomorrow.”
Eden nodded, feeling a sense of relief. At least something was moving forward. “Thanks, Lucian. I’ll go through them as soon as they arrive.”
Lucian gave a curt nod and then left, leaving Eden to her thoughts. The quiet of the office settled in again, and she found herself alone with her worries.
She quickly dismissed them. Now was not the time to get distracted by uncertainties. She had a job to do, and she would do it well. The next few weeks were critical, and she couldn’t afford to let anything—whether it was her personal life or her concerns about her temporary role—get in the way.
With renewed determination, Eden turned her attention to the folders on her desk. There was a lot to do, and she was ready to tackle it head-on.
