Chapter 67
call. The phone rang a few times before it was answered with a cold, distant voice on the other end.
“Yes?” came the voice, sharp and professional.
Phillip swallowed, feeling the weight of his emotions pressing down on him. It had been so many years since he had made calls like this, and yet here he was, trying to piece together the fractured remnants of his family’s past.
“I need you to find out everything you can about Rebecca. Her past. Her actions. Anything that could confirm what Victor said about her,” Phillip said, his voice thick with urgency.
There was a slight pause on the other end before the voice responded, “Understood, sir. I’ll get on it immediately.”
As the call ended, Phillip lowered the phone, his eyes lingering on the device in his hand. He had spent years in denial, convinced that Rebecca’s actions were not as malicious as Victor had claimed. But now, after everything that had been said today, a gnawing doubt settled in his mind. Had Rebecca truly been as cruel as Victor had described? And if so, how much of his own family’s misery had been caused by her ambition?
Victor’s words echoed in his mind. “Eden is still alive.” Could it be true? Could the woman he had lost all those years ago still be out there, waiting for him to find her? Or had his hope clouded his judgment?
Phillip clenched his fists, the weight of his regrets and the mystery of his past pressing in on him. He knew he couldn’t undo the mistakes he had made, but maybe—just maybe—there was still a chance to fix things.
Meanwhile, Victor stood outside the Alwynn family home, his anger still boiling beneath the surface. His father’s words had struck too deep, but they had also fueled the fire within him. He had been searching for answers about Eden for so many years, and now he was more determined than ever to uncover the truth.
Eden is alive, he thought to himself, the words echoing through his mind. If it was true, if she was still out there, then he would find her. No matter what it took.
He pulled out his phone, quickly dialing the one person who might be able to help him. The phone rang twice before someone picked up.
“Victor?” The voice was familiar, steady, and reassuring.
“Jasper,” Victor said, his voice low but firm. “I need your help. We need to find out everything we can about Eden’s disappearance. I have a feeling my mother might still be alive.”
There was a brief silence on the other end before Jasper responded. “Victor… you really think so?”
“I do,” Victor replied, his determination unwavering. “I’m going to find her, no matter what.”
Jasper sighed, but there was a hint of resolve in his tone. “Alright. I’ll start digging. We’ll figure this out together.”
Victor nodded, his grip on his phone tightening. “Thanks, Jasper. I’ll be in touch.”
As he hung up, Victor’s gaze turned toward the horizon, where the city stretched out before him. He had a long road ahead of him, but he knew he wouldn’t rest until he had the answers he was looking for. Eden had been taken from him once, but he would not allow it to happen again.
Back at Eden’s house, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Her children were busy with their day, but a nagging sense of unease lingered in her chest. She had always tried to keep her past buried, but now, with Victor’s unexpected visit and the mention of his mother, her thoughts were drawn back to a time long ago.
Is it possible that Victor is still looking for me? she wondered. What if everything he said was true? What if the man I once loved still remembers me, still hopes for my return?
She shook her head, trying to push the thoughts away. But deep down, a small part of her couldn’t deny the possibility. The man she had once known, the man she had once loved, was still out there searching for her. And maybe—just maybe—their paths would cross again one day.
For now, though, all she could do was focus on her children, on the life she had built for herself. But even as she smiled and played with them, a part of her wondered if the past would ever truly stay buried.
