Chapter 98
Eden nodded, smiling as she walked back to where Victor and Lucian were standing. Her mind was still on the phone call with Jasper, the excitement of the business deal going through, and the promise of seeing the new house later.
Victor, as usual, was calm and composed, but she could sense the subtle change in his gaze when he looked at her. There was something more than just professional courtesy in his eyes today, something that made her heart beat a little faster.
She had grown used to the quiet support Victor offered, but today, there was something different in the air—an unspoken bond between them that was becoming harder to ignore.
Bethany, on the other hand, was still simmering in the aftermath of their exchange, her face a mask of forced composure. But Eden could tell she was on the edge, and she relished the moment. The upper-class world was so used to holding power over others, but today, it was clear who was in control.
Lucian, noticing the tension easing, gave a small, knowing smile. “I think Mrs. Gienger learned a lesson today,” he remarked quietly.
Victor’s lips curled into a faint smile, though it was more of a satisfied smirk than anything else. “She may have, but it’s a lesson learned too late.”
As they made their way back to the car, Eden’s phone buzzed again, this time with a message from Jasper. “All done. I’ll handle everything.”
Eden’s heart lifted at the thought of everything falling into place, but there was still one thing that lingered—her growing feelings for Victor. She had always been aware of the way he cared for her, but now, after everything, it felt more real. It wasn’t just about the business anymore; it was about something deeper.
“Shall we go to the company, then?” Victor asked, his voice cutting through her thoughts.
“Yes, let’s,” Eden replied with a smile, pushing her thoughts to the back of her mind for the moment. They had work to do, after all.
But as she walked beside him, her thoughts wandered once more to the day ahead, and the future that was starting to feel more uncertain, yet more promising at the same time.
