Chapter 92
Haven’s face flushed with embarrassment as Rebecca’s words landed sharply. For a moment, she stood frozen, her eyes flickering with a mix of frustration and uncertainty. She had always relied on her charm and persistence, but now, in the face of Rebecca’s stern disapproval, she felt the weight of her actions more than ever.
Aisling, who had been quietly watching the exchange, finally spoke up, her voice softer but still firm. “Haven, I understand your feelings. But if you want Victor to respect you, it can’t be through manipulation or trying to drive others away. You need to focus on your own strengths.”
Haven bit her lip again, her thoughts racing. She had always seen Victor as her future, and the idea of giving up now was unbearable. Yet, as the words sank in, a new realization began to form—perhaps her approach needed to change.
“I’ll prove myself,” she muttered, more to herself than to anyone else. “Victor will see my worth. I won’t give up.”
Aisling’s expression softened as she reached out to gently touch her daughter’s arm. “I know you’re determined, but remember, this isn’t just about Victor. You have your own path to follow. Don’t lose sight of that.”
Haven nodded quietly, but her eyes were far away, focused on something only she could see—Victor, unreachable and perfect in her mind. Despite her mother’s words, the idea of proving herself to him, of somehow making him see her as more than just a passing thought, consumed her.
As she sat in silence, Rebecca’s eyes lingered on Haven for a moment, the weight of her own life experiences reflecting in her gaze. “You have to be patient. True respect isn’t earned overnight, and you can’t force it out of someone. Focus on yourself, not just on winning someone else’s approval.”
For the first time, Haven didn’t immediately argue. There was a flicker of understanding behind her tear-filled eyes, though it was quickly replaced by a steely determination. “I’ll do it my way. I don’t need anyone’s approval to succeed.”
Aisling watched her daughter, still unsure but willing to let her try. “Then, we’ll move forward with your plan. But remember—no more games. Just be yourself.”
Haven stood, wiping away the last of her tears, and offered a shaky smile. “Thank you, Mom. I’ll make you proud.”
As they left the office, Haven’s mind raced with plans. She would do whatever it took to make Victor see her—not as a burden or a mere adopted daughter, but as someone worthy of his attention. She could feel the challenges ahead, but for the first time, she didn’t feel afraid. She was ready to fight for her place in Victor’s world, no matter what it took.
