Chapter 89
Eden’s heart tightened as she listened to Ricky speak with such maturity. He was only a child, yet he was already shouldering so much responsibility. It made her proud, but also concerned. She didn’t want him to grow up too fast, to carry burdens that were meant for adults. She wished things could be different—wished that they didn’t have to rely on Ricky so much.
But before she could voice any further concerns, Abigail’s voice interrupted her thoughts. “Look, Eden, Ricky has already made his decision. You should support him. He wants this, and honestly, he’s got the talent for it.”
Eden hesitated, still torn. She could see the sincerity in Ricky’s eyes, and she knew he was doing this not just for himself, but for their family. But at the same time, she couldn’t ignore the little voice inside her that told her to protect him from the pressures of the world for as long as possible.
She turned to face Victor, who had been quietly observing the exchange. His calm demeanor made it hard to read what he was thinking. “Victor,” she said, her voice steady but laced with concern, “you understand, don’t you? He’s just a child. I don’t want him to be caught up in all of this too soon.”
Victor’s eyes softened slightly as he met her gaze. “I understand, Eden,” he replied. “But sometimes, children have more strength than we give them credit for. Ricky is no different. If he’s made up his mind, then it’s our job to support him.”
Eden looked back at Ricky, who was still smiling reassuringly at her. It was clear that he was determined, and despite her worries, she didn’t want to stand in his way. After a long pause, she sighed and nodded.
“Alright,” she said quietly. “But we will make sure that his education comes first. This won’t interfere with his studies, understand?”
Ricky nodded enthusiastically. “I promise, Mom. I’ll make sure I balance everything.”
Abigail, sensing that she had won the argument, smiled triumphantly. “Great! I’ll make sure everything is in order. We’ll get this signed and Ricky will be all set.”
As Abigail moved to finalize the details, Eden couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. She had agreed to let Ricky pursue this opportunity, but she knew it wasn’t going to be easy for him. The path ahead was uncertain, and she only hoped that they wouldn’t push him too hard.
Meanwhile, Anson, who had been watching the interaction with growing admiration for Ricky, turned to Victor. “You’ve got a remarkable son, Victor. He’s got more maturity than most adults I know.”
Victor simply nodded, his expression unreadable. “Yes, he does. But that doesn’t make it any easier.”
Eden caught the subtle shift in Victor’s tone and felt a pang of sympathy. It was clear that Victor understood the weight of the situation better than anyone else. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder if they were all asking too much of Ricky.
As the meeting began to wrap up, she looked down at her son once more. No matter what happened, she would protect him, even if it meant facing the world on her own. She wouldn’t let him grow up too soon—not if she could help it.
