Chapter 82
Eden smiled warmly, a touch of amusement in her eyes at Victor’s sudden change of tone. She had gotten used to his intense gaze, though it still made her heart skip a beat every time. He had that effect on her, even when they were simply sharing a meal or walking side by side like now.
“It was my pleasure, Mr. Alwynn,” she replied, her voice calm but carrying an unmistakable hint of gratitude. “I’d be happy to join you for another dinner when the time is right.” She paused, looking at him thoughtfully. “But you do know, it’s rare for me to take time out of my schedule for personal engagements. So, next time, it’ll have to be at a time that works for both of us.”
Victor’s smile softened, and he gave a small nod. “I’ll make sure to find a time that suits you, Miss Bleu,” he said, his voice carrying a more personal tone than before. The playful, businesslike side of him seemed to have softened, replaced by something warmer, more genuine.
They stood there for a moment, the quiet of the evening wrapping around them. The streetlights flickered softly, casting a gentle glow as they lingered in the cool air. Eden felt the weight of the moment but wasn’t sure how to react. She hadn’t expected such an intimate exchange from Victor, but it made her feel something she couldn’t quite explain.
Victor finally broke the silence, taking a step closer, his expression thoughtful. “I’m glad we had this chance to talk, Eden,” he said, his voice lower now, almost as if he were confiding in her. “There’s something about you that… I don’t know, it’s different.”
Eden raised an eyebrow, a soft smile playing at the corners of her lips. “I’m sure you say that to everyone,” she teased, but the light in her eyes said she didn’t entirely believe it.
Victor chuckled softly, the sound rich and genuine. “No, I don’t,” he said, taking another step forward. “There’s something about you, Eden. I’m not just talking about the work or the company. It’s you, the way you carry yourself… I admire that.”
Her heart skipped a beat at his words, her smile faltering for just a moment. She hadn’t expected such a compliment from him, and it made her feel strangely vulnerable. But she quickly recovered, her professional demeanor returning. “Thank you, Mr. Alwynn,” she said, giving a small, composed bow of her head. “I’ll see you at the office.”
Victor’s gaze lingered on her, the weight of his words hanging between them. “Until then,” he said quietly, and for a brief moment, their eyes locked in a way that felt both intense and unspoken.
With a final nod, Victor turned, his steps carrying him away from Eden’s apartment. As he disappeared into the distance, Eden stood still for a moment longer, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside her. It had been an interesting evening, and she couldn’t deny the pull she felt toward him, even if she couldn’t fully understand it yet.
Eden finally stepped inside, the warmth of her apartment greeting her, but the thoughts of the evening stayed with her as she moved about her evening routine. The dynamics between them were shifting, and Eden couldn’t help but wonder what this new chapter in their relationship would bring.
