Chapter 66
Victor’s words hit like a slap, his anger undeniable, and the tension in the room became almost suffocating. Phillip looked taken aback, as if he had been caught off guard by his son’s fury. But there was no denying the truth in Victor’s words.
Victor’s gaze was sharp, almost accusatory. “So this is what it’s really about, isn’t it? You want me to marry Haven so that you can appease Rebecca, and everything can go back to the way it was. But I won’t be your pawn in this twisted game, Father.”
Phillip struggled to keep his composure, his hand clutching the edge of the bed as if it could steady him. He took a deep breath, but his voice faltered. “Victor, Haven is a good girl. She’s from a respectable family, and… she can help you. This is what’s best for you. Your mother wouldn’t want you to live alone.”
Victor let out a bitter laugh, his eyes glinting with contempt. “You have no idea what I need, do you? Haven is just another pawn in this endless power struggle, just like your marriage to Rebecca. This isn’t about what’s best for me. It’s about keeping control. And I won’t let you use me for your own purposes.”
He turned on his heel, his expression cold and distant. The years of bitterness had hardened him, and he wasn’t about to let his father manipulate him again.
“Goodbye, Father. I’ve heard enough.” Victor’s voice was sharp, filled with finality.
Phillip watched him leave, his heart heavy with the weight of his failures. He had tried, in his own twisted way, to bring some semblance of peace to his family, but all he had done was push his son further away.
Victor’s steps echoed down the hallway as he made his way out of the house, his mind racing. He had come here hoping to find answers, but instead, he was left with even more questions. Gate City. His mother was there, but no one seemed to know where she was. How could that be?
His heart pounded in his chest as a mix of anger, frustration, and longing gripped him. He couldn’t just sit around and wait. He had to find her, and he wasn’t going to stop until he did.
Back at Eden’s place, Ricky was helping Gia with her watercolor set, their laughter filling the air. But Eden couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Her children had always been a source of comfort, but today, she couldn’t help but wonder what secrets they were all unknowingly connected to. What was it that Victor was hiding? And why did she feel like everything was on the verge of changing?
Her thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock at the door. She stood up, wiping her hands on her apron as she walked toward the door.
When she opened it, she was met with the last person she expected—Victor.
His presence was commanding, but his expression was unreadable. “Eden,” he said simply, his voice low but firm.
She felt her heart skip a beat. “Victor? What are you doing here?”
He looked past her into the house, his eyes briefly flickering over the familiar surroundings. His gaze softened for a moment before he met her eyes again. “I need to talk to you. It’s important.”
Eden felt a knot tighten in her stomach. She stepped aside to let him in, but the unease lingered. She knew this conversation was going to change everything.
