Chapter 57
Anson’s search through the cabinet became even more frantic, as if the missing object was taunting him from the shadows. Victor watched with a raised eyebrow, his thoughts still swirling around Eden. It was like a weight pressing on him, knowing that the woman he had once been with—and who might now be in his life again—was somehow entangled with his past in ways he hadn’t imagined.
Anson’s voice broke through his thoughts, pulling him back to the present. “Ah! Found it!” Anson pulled out a photo album from the bottom of the drawer, holding it up triumphantly. “This album… it’s full of stuff from when we were younger. You probably don’t remember, but this might help.”
Victor stared at the album, then back at Anson, who had already started flipping through the pages. His curiosity piqued, Victor leaned forward, the distant look in his eyes replaced by intensity.
Anson skimmed through the album quickly, flipping past pages filled with pictures of their younger selves. He paused at one page, where a picture caught his eye. “I knew it!” he exclaimed.
Victor’s heart skipped a beat as Anson pointed to a photo from a past trip they had taken together. In it, a younger Eden, her face radiant and full of life, stood beside a young Victor, both of them laughing.
“You remember this trip?” Anson asked, a sly smile tugging at his lips.
Victor’s eyes fixed on the image, the memory suddenly flooding back. It was from a time long ago, before everything had changed. But the resemblance was undeniable. Eden, even then, had that same spark in her eyes.
Victor leaned in closer, his voice thick with emotion. “Eden… was she with me then?”
Anson nodded slowly. “Looks like it, man. But you were so caught up in your family and your business, you didn’t even realize who you were with back then. You were focused on your future, your goals, but Eden… she was always right there.”
Victor sat back, the weight of Anson’s words crashing over him like a tidal wave. His thoughts churned. Was Eden the same woman who had been with him all those years ago? Could it be that she had always been a part of his life in ways he hadn’t realized?
The truth about Eden’s identity was more complicated than Victor could have ever imagined. Anson watched him carefully, waiting for his reaction, knowing that this was the moment when everything could change.
Victor finally broke the silence. “I need to see her. I need to know if this is real.”
Anson looked at him, understanding the urgency in his voice. “I’ll help you get the answers you need. But remember, Victor, this isn’t just about finding Eden. It’s about facing the past, the mistakes we’ve made, and the truth we’ve been running from.”
Victor’s jaw tightened. “I don’t care about the past anymore. I just want to find her.”
With that, Anson nodded, already pulling out his phone to start making calls. He knew this was just the beginning of a journey that would change everything for Victor—and for Eden.
