Chapter 55
Anson took another sip of water, trying to suppress the tension in the room. He could feel Victor’s glare digging into him, sharp and demanding. The last thing he wanted was to make things worse, but it was impossible to ignore the urgency in Victor’s voice.
“No,” Anson replied slowly, setting the glass down. “That’s not all. I found something else. Something you might not want to hear, but it’s critical.”
Victor’s eyes flickered with impatience, but he nodded for Anson to continue. His expression hardened again, like the calm before a storm, and Anson felt the weight of the moment pressing down on him. This wasn’t just any revelation—it was something that could shatter everything Victor thought he knew.
“After I found out about Cyan’s past,” Anson began, his voice more cautious now, “I kept digging. The deeper I went, the more connections I found. Cyan isn’t just any woman. She has ties to powerful people. People who have been watching Eden. Myra might be playing a much bigger game than we thought.”
Victor’s eyes darkened again, and his hands clenched into fists. The mention of Eden being watched was a direct threat he wasn’t willing to tolerate. He leaned forward, his voice low and controlled. “And what does that mean for Eden? What are they planning?”
Anson hesitated, clearly uncomfortable with what he was about to say. “Victor… there’s a risk. Myra’s not just some bystander in all this. I’ve got reason to believe she’s been manipulating things from behind the scenes. She’s been pushing Eden into situations where she had no choice but to interact with people she shouldn’t have. Cyan—Eden—was never supposed to stay hidden for long.”
Victor’s pulse quickened. The pieces were falling into place in ways he hadn’t anticipated. “And you’re telling me you’ve been dancing around this for how long? Waiting for what? My permission to act?” His voice was edged with disbelief and anger.
Anson flinched, but kept his composure. “No. I didn’t want to act without the right information. But now I’ve got it. I know who Eden is. I know where she’s come from. And I know who’s been pulling the strings. We can’t just sweep this under the rug, Victor. If we’re going to protect her, we need to move fast. Myra… she’s dangerous.”
Victor took a deep breath, his thoughts spiraling. Eden had always seemed like a mystery, someone with a past she was desperate to escape. He never imagined she would be linked to something like this. And Myra, who had always been a seemingly innocent figure in all of this, was playing a game much darker than anyone had realized.
“So, what’s the next step?” Victor asked, his voice low but filled with a quiet determination.
Anson looked him squarely in the eyes. “We confront Myra. We expose the ties, and we figure out what her next move is before she makes it. If she’s been manipulating Eden this whole time, we need to know why, and what she plans to do with that information.”
Victor nodded, his mind already working through the strategy. “Then let’s do it. I won’t let her harm Eden. I don’t care what it takes.”
Anson couldn’t help but respect Victor’s resolve, even if it meant dealing with a storm that was brewing from every direction. The truth was out now, and there was no turning back.
Eden’s world was about to change. And Victor? He would stop at nothing to protect her from whatever shadows lurked in the corners of her past.
