Chapter 51
As Eden and Ricky made their way into the apartment, a warmth settled in her heart. It had been a long day, and there was nothing more comforting than the sight of her son. Ricky was full of energy, eager to share every little detail of his experience while filming. She listened attentively, feeling both proud and a little overwhelmed by how much he had grown.
“Mom, guess what! The director said I was amazing today,” Ricky said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “He even gave me a high five!”
Eden smiled, ruffling his hair. “I’m so proud of you, Ricky. You’ve worked so hard, and it shows.”
As Ricky chattered away, unpacking his small suitcase and telling her about the filming adventures, Eden couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt for the time they had been apart. She had missed so many moments like these, moments she couldn’t get back.
Ricky’s voice brought her back to the present. “And guess what else? They said they might want me in another movie!”
Eden’s heart swelled with pride. “That’s amazing, Ricky! You’re on your way to becoming a star.”
Ricky beamed, clearly enjoying the praise. He bounced over to the couch, plopping down with a contented sigh. “This trip was so much fun, but I’m glad to be back with you, Mom.”
Eden smiled softly as she sat down next to him. “I’m glad you’re back, too, sweetheart.”
She glanced at the clock—it was still early enough for them to spend some time together. She decided to let him talk as much as he wanted. After all, she’d missed so many of his little moments.
Meanwhile, back at the apartment building, Jasper stood at the entrance, his gaze still lingering on the mother and son as they disappeared inside. A soft smile lingered on his lips, but there was something deeper in his eyes—a mix of affection and longing that he couldn’t quite shake. The day had been filled with lighthearted moments, but there was an unspoken understanding between him and Eden. He knew she had a lot on her plate, and he wanted to be there for her, just like he always had been.
“Tomorrow, huh?” Jasper muttered to himself, his fingers tightening around the keys in his hand as he turned to head back to his car. “I’ll make sure tomorrow is a good day for all of us.”
Back inside, Eden tucked Ricky into bed, listening as he mumbled about his day at the shoot. His words faded as he drifted off to sleep, and Eden took a moment to just watch him. His peaceful face brought her comfort. It had been a long day, but seeing her son happy and healthy made everything worth it.
She quietly left the room, walking back into the living room where she sank into the couch, her thoughts turning to everything that had happened. Victor, Haven, Jasper… It was all so tangled. But right now, none of that mattered. She had Ricky with her, and that was all that truly mattered.
As she closed her eyes, the familiar weight of exhaustion settled over her. The day had been full, but tomorrow promised a new chapter—a chance to reconnect with her son, and maybe, just maybe, a chance to find some peace amidst the chaos.
With that thought, Eden drifted off to sleep, feeling the weight of the world slip away, if only for a few hours.
