Chapter 3
Seven years had passed since Cyan had last set foot in River City. The city that had once disappointed her, the city that had been the backdrop of her greatest pain, now seemed distant, almost foreign to her.
At River City Airport, a small figure stood surrounded by a group of bodyguards. He was no older than six but carried himself with an air of confidence that was beyond his years. Henrick Bleu, the child star who had captured the nation’s heart, walked through the airport exit, his tiny face framed by a pair of dark sunglasses. His lips, pink and slightly pursed, added to his charm, and he moved with a grace that made him the center of attention.
“Look! Henrick Bleu is here!”
“He’s so cool!”
“Wow, look at the way he walks!”
The crowd buzzed with excitement as fans crowded around, eager to snap photos of the young star. Despite the chaos, Henrick smiled at his admirers, offering a polite wave and a thank you in his soft, melodic voice before he was ushered into a sleek black minivan.
Once the noise outside was muffled, Henrick pulled out his phone, his small fingers pressing the buttons with care. He dialed a number, repeating silently to himself, “One, two…” Before he could finish, the call connected.
“Mum, where are you?” Henrick’s voice was light and sweet, full of the innocence only a child could possess.
The voice on the other end was calm and soothing. “Baby, I’m on the highway. I’ll be there soon.”
Henrick’s excitement was palpable. “Don’t forget to come watch my performance today. I’ll be waiting for you!”
The woman on the other end smiled warmly. “I’ll be there. I’ll send you the location in a bit.”
As Henrick ended the call, his mother, now traveling on the highway, looked out the window at the passing scenery. A subtle shift in her expression marked the change in her thoughts. The warm smile that had been on her face faded into something colder, more distant.
It had been seven years. Seven years since Cyan had left River City, and now, she was returning.
Cyan had once dreamed of a life beyond the Gienger family’s control. But instead of the freedom she had hoped for, her university graduation had led her into a dark scheme orchestrated by Myra. That night, the events that followed had left her pregnant with triplets—two sons and a daughter. Her world had been shattered, and though she tried to fight back, the weight of her circumstances was too much to bear.
She had learned the truth about her past that day—the Gienger family had not adopted her out of kindness but out of their own selfish motives. She was not their biological daughter; she was the result of an accident, a six-year-old girl hit by a car and left to be raised by a family who never truly accepted her.
Her dreams of escaping the Gienger family’s clutches had been crushed. Yet, in the wake of that despair, Cyan had found strength. She had been through so much, but she had survived. And over the years, she had become someone stronger, steadier, and more resolute.
After the night that changed everything, she had disappeared. She had needed to escape. The car accident that had brought her to her current life had also led her to a best friend who had stood by her through everything. That person had helped her heal, and now, after seven years, Cyan was finally ready to face her past.
She wasn’t just returning to the city to confront those who had wronged her—she was also determined to find her birth parents. There were still pieces of her past she needed to put together, and she would no longer let the Gienger family or anyone else stand in her way.
