Chapter 36
Eden’s face lit up when she saw Jasper. His cheerful energy was always a source of comfort for her, especially after a long day of work. She was glad that, despite all the challenges and changes in her life, she could still count on him to be a friendly and steady presence.
“Jasper, you’re always so early!” she remarked, her tone light and teasing.
Jasper chuckled and shrugged. “You know me, I can’t stand being late. Besides, I knew you’d be finished with work by now, so I figured I’d save you some time.”
He held up a small bag, revealing the contents. “I brought you some coffee. I figured you might need a little pick-me-up after a busy day.”
Eden smiled, grateful for the thoughtful gesture. “Thanks, Jasper. You always know exactly what I need.”
She took the coffee from him and sipped it slowly, feeling the warmth spread through her, relaxing her muscles after the stressful day. As she looked around, she suddenly remembered something that had been lingering in her mind.
“Jasper, do you know anything about the Clement family?” Eden asked, her voice soft but curious.
Jasper raised an eyebrow at the question, looking at her with a slight sense of surprise. “The Clement family? Why do you ask?”
Eden hesitated for a moment, then let out a small sigh. “It’s just… I’ve been hearing a lot about them lately. I don’t know much about them, but it feels like they’re connected to everything going on in River City right now.”
Jasper glanced at her thoughtfully, his expression becoming serious. “I see. Well, the Clement family is one of the oldest and wealthiest in River City. They’ve got a reputation for being powerful, influential—and they’re tied to a lot of the city’s business deals.”
He paused for a moment, trying to gauge her interest. “But why do you ask? Do you have a connection with them?”
Eden shook her head, unsure of how to explain the situation. “I’m not sure yet. But I just have this feeling that they might play a bigger role in the changes coming for us. And… it’s strange, because it’s almost like they’re connected to someone from my past. I don’t know how to describe it.”
Jasper listened intently, nodding in understanding. “It sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate, Eden. But if you ever need help figuring this out, I’m here for you.”
Eden smiled at him, feeling a little more reassured. “Thanks, Jasper. I appreciate it.”
The two of them continued talking for a while, enjoying each other’s company. As the evening wore on, Eden’s mind couldn’t help but drift back to the Clement family, wondering what kind of impact they would have on her life, and on the life of her children, once they arrived in River City.
Back at home, Gia was still in her own world, happily drawing in her room. The family portrait she had created earlier lay on the desk beside her. She couldn’t help but smile as she thought about her parents finding each other again.
“I’ll make sure that when we find him,” she said softly to herself, “Mom and Dad will be together again. And our family will be complete.”
Her innocent belief in the power of love and family was a beacon of hope in an otherwise complicated situation. Little did she know, the journey ahead would lead her to more than just answers, but to unexpected truths about the past, the present, and the people who had shaped her life.
In the shadows of River City, secrets were beginning to stir, and the Alwynn family’s tangled web of relationships and power would soon come to the forefront, setting the stage for a story of love, betrayal, and redemption. But for now, Eden was focused on the present, on her children, and on the hope that River City would offer the fresh start they all needed.
