Chapter 23
Kenneth sat back in his chair, his small yet sharp eyes scanning the information on the screen. He wasn’t surprised that Victor Alwynn had launched an investigation into his mother. He knew there were many secrets surrounding their past, but he never expected the CEO of such a powerful company to become personally involved.
The more he dug, the more Kenneth’s expression grew serious. Victor Alwynn was not someone to be underestimated. Kenneth had heard the name many times before, as his mother often spoke of him in passing, but now he was a direct part of their lives in a way that neither he nor Eden had anticipated.
Seven, as Kenneth was called, had always been curious about his mother’s past. Eden had kept things from him—certain pieces of their life that she didn’t want to bring up, likely to shield him from the truth. He had learned to trust her decisions, but that didn’t mean he was content to leave things unanswered.
The more Kenneth learned, the more certain he became that Victor had some connection to his mother, and that connection was something deep and possibly dangerous. His mind worked quickly, and in a matter of seconds, he found the connections that would allow him to dig deeper into Victor’s world. He wasn’t going to sit idly by while Victor poked into their past. If Victor was going to uncover secrets, Kenneth would do the same. It was time to learn more about the man who seemed to be growing more obsessed with his mother.
He leaned forward, his fingers flying over the keyboard, setting in motion plans that would take him deeper into Victor’s world. He wasn’t going to let Eden’s past remain hidden from him any longer.
Meanwhile, Victor’s impatience was mounting. His earlier call with Anson had only fueled his determination to uncover Eden Bleu’s true identity. Every bit of information about her was like a puzzle piece he needed to complete the picture, but so far, it felt like most of those pieces had been taken away. He was losing patience, and the earlier excitement was slowly being replaced with frustration.
He stood up and walked to the window of his office, staring out at the city. His thoughts wandered back to the brief but striking interaction with Eden. Her reaction to his probing, the way she had almost pulled away at the sight of her mole—it all pointed to something more. But what? Could she really be the girl he had once known? The one who had vanished without a trace so many years ago?
Victor’s mind swirled with questions, but as the hours passed and the sun dipped below the horizon, he knew one thing for certain: he couldn’t let this go. Eden Bleu was his key to unlocking the past. And he was willing to go to any lengths to uncover the truth.
He sat back down, picking up his phone again. This time, it was Anson he called.
“Anson,” Victor said, his voice steely and sharp. “I need everything. Find out where she’s staying, who she’s been in contact with, and get me more information on her background. I don’t care how long it takes. Do it.”
Anson, who had just begun to recover from his earlier frustration, was silent for a moment before he responded, “Understood, Victor. I’ll get on it right away.”
Victor ended the call and leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the desk. As he waited, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was about to change. Whether for better or for worse, he didn’t know. But Eden Bleu—this woman—was at the center of it all. And no matter how much time it took, he would find out the truth.
