Chapter 22
Victor sat in his office, still holding the photo of the young Eden Clement, his thoughts spinning in a whirlwind. The resemblance between the mole on the back of her hand and the woman in front of him—Eden Bleu—was undeniable. His heart pounded as the reality of his suspicion began to set in. Could she really be the Eden he had been searching for all these years?
He stood up, pacing again, running his fingers through his hair. His mind was filled with the images of his memories, the innocent girl he had once known, and the striking woman now standing before him. He couldn’t shake the feeling that fate had brought them back together, even if he didn’t fully understand why or how.
Could she have returned to him under a new identity? He needed to know more, and he needed to be sure.
Meanwhile, Eden leaned against her desk, staring at her phone as she listened to her mother’s soothing voice over the line. The conversation with her had gone just as Eden expected—her mother had hesitated, but ultimately agreed to move to River City with the rest of the family. The thought of reuniting with her loved ones in a new city, starting fresh, filled Eden with a sense of hope.
However, as her mother spoke about the move, Eden’s thoughts drifted back to the uncertainty surrounding her own identity. Her decision to stay in River City had been made for more than just work; it was a way to remain close to the family she had chosen after everything she had gone through. But with Victor Alwynn in the picture now, Eden couldn’t help but wonder if her past was catching up to her faster than she was ready for.
The mention of Ricky’s career stirred her thoughts further. She knew her brother wanted to pursue his dreams in the city, but would this new move disrupt his plans? She would have to figure that out as well. But for now, the most important thing was securing a home for her family. She had already saved enough money to make it happen, and she was determined to create a stable, happy life for them.
As she hung up the phone, a sense of warmth and contentment washed over her. Her family, her real family, would finally be together again.
Victor, meanwhile, was still grappling with his internal turmoil. He needed answers, and the only way to get them was through Eden herself. He knew that finding the truth wouldn’t be easy, but the thought of losing her again—if she truly was the Eden he remembered—was unbearable. The pieces of the puzzle were slowly starting to fall into place, but there were still many questions left unanswered.
He stared at the photo one last time before putting it away. The image of the young Eden Clement, with her wide smile and bright eyes, would forever be etched in his memory. And now, the woman standing before him, Eden Bleu, was stirring something deep within him—a long-buried hope that had never truly disappeared.
Victor picked up his phone again, his fingers hovering over the screen. He had to know. He couldn’t let this chance slip through his fingers.
Back in her office, Eden stood up, her phone still in her hand. She felt an odd sense of foreboding, as if something—someone—was watching her. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Victor’s gaze had followed her longer than she had realized. His reaction to the mole on her hand had been unsettling, and she had no idea what it meant.
She forced herself to focus on the task at hand. There was no time to dwell on such things. The move to River City, the new opportunities, her family—it all had to come first.
But deep down, a part of her knew that this new chapter in her life was not going to be as simple as she hoped.
