Chapter 18
Victor’s mind raced as he thought back to the past, to a time when Eden had been his everything. The memories were vivid—her laughter, her innocence, the way she had once looked at him with trust and admiration. But that was before everything fell apart, before she disappeared from his life without a trace.
Now, here she was, standing right before him, as a successful design director at his company. He couldn’t ignore the strange familiarity in her eyes, the same innocence he remembered from years ago. Was it possible that this was truly her, the Eden he had been searching for all these years?
Victor clenched his jaw and leaned forward in his chair, trying to focus on the present. He couldn’t let his personal emotions interfere with his work, but the thought of Eden being so close yet so far away made it nearly impossible to concentrate.
He stood up abruptly, his tall figure casting a shadow over the sleek furnishings in his office. He walked toward the window and stared out, lost in his thoughts. Was it a coincidence that she had ended up here? Or was fate trying to bring them back together?
The ring of his phone broke his reverie. Victor glanced at the caller ID and answered, his voice professional as always. “Yes?”
“Mr. Alwynn, we’ve received the final reports from the marketing team. They’re ready for your review,” Lucian’s voice came through, calm and collected as usual.
Victor’s eyes flickered with a mix of emotions, but he quickly masked them. “Send them in,” he replied curtly.
As Lucian began making his way to Victor’s office, Victor’s mind returned to Eden. He had to know more about her—what had happened to her in the years since she disappeared from his life? Why had she chosen this path? And why did it feel like he had been waiting for her all this time, even without realizing it?
His thoughts were interrupted by Lucian entering with the reports in hand. “Here are the reports, Mr. Alwynn. Also, I believe Director Bleu is settling in well. I’ve arranged for her assistant to meet her tomorrow.”
Victor nodded absently, flipping through the papers in front of him without truly reading them. His mind was elsewhere. Lucian, sensing his boss’s distraction, cleared his throat.
“Sir, is something on your mind?”
Victor snapped out of his daze and gave Lucian a sharp look. “Nothing. Just… personal matters.”
Lucian didn’t press further but nodded and left the office, leaving Victor alone again with his thoughts. He glanced at the clock. The evening was approaching, and the welcome party for Eden at Fashion Square would be starting soon.
Victor was eager to see how she would handle herself in this new environment, but a part of him was anxious. What if she didn’t recognize him? Or worse, what if she remembered everything but chose to stay distant? The unanswered questions gnawed at him.
He took a deep breath, pushing the thoughts aside. Tonight would reveal more. He had to be patient. Whatever it took, he would find the answers he was looking for.
And maybe, just maybe, he could finally find peace with the past.
