Chapter 15
Victor’s cold gaze flickered briefly toward Haven, but his expression remained impassive. He wasn’t interested in her games, nor did he have the patience for her manipulative tactics.
“I’ll think about it,” he said, his voice flat, with no intention of promising anything. He then turned his attention toward Eden, who was standing across the room, looking a little out of sorts. Eden felt the weight of his gaze on her, and for a brief moment, her composure faltered.
She hadn’t expected to see him again so soon, and the realization that this man was not only the one she had saved but also the chairman of Alwynn Group added an unexpected layer of complexity to the situation.
Haven, however, was not about to let go of her agenda. “Victor,” she insisted, her voice now laced with subtle frustration, “It’s important for our families to meet and discuss our future. Your parents will be there, and it’s time we start making arrangements.”
Victor’s lips curled into a barely perceptible smile, one that didn’t reach his eyes. “You’re very persistent, Miss Clement. But that’s not something I’m concerned about right now.”
Lucian, who had been standing quietly to the side, gave a slight nod toward Victor, acknowledging his presence but not daring to interrupt the tense exchange. He knew that Victor’s decisions could not be rushed.
Eden watched the entire interaction silently, still trying to process the strange and sudden turn of events. Her heart raced as she tried to keep her professional demeanor intact. It was one thing to have a brief encounter with Victor in a social setting, but seeing him in his corporate role—exuding power, confidence, and control—was something entirely different.
“Victor,” Haven pressed, unwilling to back down, “You need to understand the importance of this. Our families have been trying to arrange this for years. It’s time to stop avoiding it.”
Victor’s smile grew colder, and his voice dropped to a tone so measured that it seemed to send a shiver through the room. “If I wanted to avoid it, I would have already done so, Miss Clement. Now, I have work to attend to.”
With that, Victor turned sharply, signaling the end of the conversation. He looked at Eden one last time, his gaze lingering just a little longer than necessary before he walked past her and toward the conference room.
Haven’s face darkened, her smile faltering for the first time. She had been used to getting what she wanted with her charm, but Victor’s indifference—and now his clear preference to focus on other matters—was unsettling. As she turned to leave, she shot Eden a final glare, her eyes filled with a mixture of jealousy and frustration.
Eden, still stunned by the interaction, couldn’t help but wonder what the future held for her now that her path had crossed with Victor Alwynn’s once again. Was this the beginning of something much larger than a mere encounter? The air in the room seemed to grow heavier with each passing second.
Lucian, who had remained by the door, gave Eden a polite nod before following Victor into the meeting room. The door closed softly behind them, leaving Eden to collect herself.
Taking a deep breath, Eden adjusted her skirt and straightened her shoulders. She had work to do, and no matter what personal drama lingered, she couldn’t afford to let it distract her. It was time to focus on the reason she was here—to take her place as the design director and prove her worth.
But as she stepped toward the meeting room, a small voice in her head couldn’t help but wonder: What would happen if she crossed paths with Victor again?
