Chapter 14
Haven’s expression turned icy at Lucian’s words. She had been used to getting what she wanted, and this type of treatment from someone like him was unfamiliar and infuriating. But she quickly masked her irritation with a forced smile.
“Don’t forget your place, Secretary Ronen,” she said, her voice laced with coldness. “I suggest you remember who I am.”
Lucian stood unfazed, his eyes cool and calm. “I don’t forget my place, Miss Clement. But as long as Mr. Alwynn is unavailable, no one is allowed entry. You’ll have to wait like everyone else.” His tone was polite but firm, showing no signs of being intimidated.
Eden, who had been quietly observing the exchange from a distance, felt a fleeting sense of tension in the air. She had no intention of getting involved in their disagreement but was intrigued by the icy undercurrent between the two.
Haven, clearly unhappy with Lucian’s response, shot Eden a final disdainful glance before turning on her heel and walking away. Eden, however, remained composed. She wasn’t one to engage in unnecessary conflict, especially in a professional setting. Her focus was on the upcoming meeting and the responsibilities she had to take on.
With a quiet sigh, Eden approached Lucian, who was now looking at her with an unreadable expression. She smiled politely, “Good morning, Mr. Ronen. I’m here for today’s meeting. Would you mind showing me the way?”
Lucian’s eyes softened slightly at the mention of the meeting, but his professional demeanor didn’t falter. “Good morning, Miss Bleu,” he replied, his tone respectful yet neutral. “The meeting room is just down the hall. I’ll escort you there.”
As they walked together down the sleek, modern hallway, Eden couldn’t help but notice the striking contrast between Lucian’s polished exterior and the tension that seemed to surround him. She briefly wondered what kind of person he was behind the walls he built around himself.
Soon enough, they reached the meeting room, where Eden’s new role as the design director was about to begin in earnest. Lucian opened the door for her, and Eden stepped inside, her confident smile returning. The room was already set up for the meeting, with large windows overlooking the city and a polished table around which the other key members of the design department were seated.
Eden took a deep breath, adjusted her posture, and walked to the head of the table. She glanced at the individuals around her, who were all quietly waiting for her to speak. This was her first official day in this position, and she was ready to prove herself.
As the meeting began, Eden found herself completely immersed in the discussion. Despite the occasional distractions and tensions surrounding her, she was determined to maintain focus. Her mind was sharp, her ideas creative, and her presence commanding.
Victor Alwynn, wherever he was, could wait. Today, Eden was here to take charge of her destiny—unfazed by anyone who tried to stand in her way.
