Chapter_49
Outside the window, I could see a sleek black car parked nearby, a few figures standing around it. The sight immediately caught my attention. Atlas noticed my gaze and smirked slightly, as if he had been expecting my reaction.
“Do you know them?” he asked, his voice low but with a hint of amusement.
I glanced back at him, trying to mask my curiosity. “No, but they look like someone important.” The figures were dressed in expensive suits, their postures stiff and guarded. They weren’t just regular business types—there was something more to them, a presence that screamed power.
Atlas, leaning back in his chair, followed my line of sight. “They’re part of a larger web of things. You’ve got a keen eye.”
I raised an eyebrow at him, unsure if he was teasing me or genuinely impressed. “What do you mean?”
He looked at me seriously now. “It’s not just about business, Chloe. It’s about understanding the games people play, who pulls the strings, and why. Those people out there? They’re part of something much bigger than Tanum Corporation, or even ATL Empire. They’re players in a game where you either understand the rules, or you get swallowed.”
I felt a chill run down my spine, unsure if he was giving me a warning or just trying to make me more intrigued. “And where do you fit into all of this, Atlas?”
He smiled faintly, his eyes narrowing. “Where do you think?”
For a moment, we both just sat there, the atmosphere thick with unspoken tension. My mind was racing, trying to process everything he had said so far. Was he hinting at something deeper than just a business partnership? Was there more to the story than I had realized?
Before I could respond, Atlas stood up and excused himself, a look of focus returning to his face. “I’ll be right back. Excuse me for a moment.”
He walked toward the door, leaving me to sit there, the weight of his words hanging heavily in the air. As I took a sip of my drink, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had just stumbled into something much larger than I had anticipated—and that perhaps, I was in deeper than I realized.
As I watched him disappear out the door, I couldn’t help but wonder just how much Atlas Pierce really knew about the tangled web of business and power that I had just begun to untangle.
