Bryan’s voice trembled with excitement as he continued, his eyes wide with disbelief. “This is… this is the Legendary Edition of Storm’s game collection! These are the ones that are almost impossible to get, even for the top players! How did you even get these, Catherine?”
Catherine simply shrugged, trying to act nonchalant, but the look on Bryan’s face said it all—she had given him a gift that far surpassed anyone’s expectations, including her own. She didn’t think much of the games; they were just something to pass the time during her breaks. But seeing the reaction in the room, she realized how rare and valuable her collection really was.
Liana, on the other hand, could barely contain her shock. She had been so proud of her exclusive demo game card, but Catherine’s flash drive—containing the full collection of Storm games—was something that no one in the room could even dream of obtaining. It was as if Catherine had just crushed her carefully curated moment with a single, casual gesture.
Liana’s smile faltered. She had thought she could embarrass Catherine, but now it seemed as though Catherine had done the complete opposite—outshining her in every way possible. Her heart pounded in frustration.
David, who had been standing next to Bryan, couldn’t help but lean in closer to get a better look at the screen. “No way… you’ve got Reborn Storm, Shadowfall, and Void Wars on here too? These games haven’t even been released in some regions yet!”
The entire room buzzed with excitement. The others started crowding around Bryan, eager to get a glimpse of the games Catherine had gifted him. Bryan, still holding the laptop with a look of sheer awe, beamed at Catherine.
“This… this is beyond amazing. Seriously, Boss, you’ve outdone yourself. This is the most valuable gift I could ever get. You’ve made my entire birthday,” Bryan said, his voice full of admiration.
Catherine, slightly overwhelmed by the attention but hiding it well, simply nodded. “I’m glad you like it.”
Meanwhile, Liana stood to the side, seething with jealousy. She had spent so much effort on her gift, knowing how much Bryan loved games, only to be completely overshadowed by Catherine’s casual gesture. Her face twisted with frustration as the guests showered Catherine with praise.
“Wow, Catherine, you really know how to impress someone,” one of the guests said.
“I wish I could get my hands on something like that,” another chimed in.
Even those who had previously admired Liana’s gift were now flocking to Catherine, clearly in awe of the thoughtfulness and value of her present. Liana’s moment of triumph had evaporated in an instant.
Catherine, noticing Liana’s discomfort, couldn’t help but glance over at her. She wasn’t trying to steal the spotlight, but it seemed that her gift was doing just that. Liana’s jealousy was palpable, but Catherine had no intention of acknowledging it. She had simply given Bryan something she thought he would enjoy.
“Hey, Bryan, how about we try one of the games later?” Catherine asked casually, steering the conversation away from the tension. Bryan eagerly nodded.
“That sounds like a great idea, Boss! Let’s do it after the party. You’ve made my birthday unforgettable,” Bryan said, his eyes sparkling.
The conversation soon shifted back to the party, but Liana was left standing in the shadows, feeling humiliated and defeated. She had tried to one-up Catherine, but instead, Catherine had completely dominated the moment.
As the party continued, Liana found herself isolated from the others, the whispers of admiration for Catherine ringing in her ears. It was clear that Catherine had won, and Liana had lost—spectacularly.
