Catherine remained unfazed, even as the eyes of the entire class settled on her. She could feel the tension building in the room, but her expression was cold, as if she were barely awake to the unfolding drama. Bryan, who had been attentive to her every move since the morning, was already standing guard, ensuring that nothing would disturb her.
The homeroom teacher and the math teacher exchanged glances, clearly eager to make their move. The principal, who had been standing silently at the back, observed the scene with a scrutinizing eye, waiting for the right moment to intervene.
The math teacher stepped forward, a smug smile on her face as she addressed the class, “This student has been a constant disruptor in our classroom. It’s clear she’s been cheating her way through her grades, and her blatant disrespect for the rules cannot go unchecked.”
The homeroom teacher, sensing the rising tension, reluctantly agreed, “Indeed, Catherine has shown a complete disregard for the standards of this school. We cannot tolerate such behavior.”
Students whispered among themselves, though the whispers were laced with curiosity. Some had long suspected Catherine’s poor behavior was linked to her academic success, but no one had dared to voice it openly—until now.
Catherine slowly lifted her head from the desk, her eyes meeting the principal’s gaze. She didn’t seem angry or defensive, but simply indifferent to their accusations. Her silence was both an answer and a challenge.
“Is there something you’d like to add, Miss Swann?” The principal’s voice was stern, his eyes narrowed, as if he were daring her to respond.
Catherine finally broke her silence, her tone unbothered. “If you’re going to accuse me of something, at least have the decency to state the facts. I don’t have time for baseless accusations.” Her voice was steady, betraying no hint of fear or guilt.
The math teacher sneered. “How dare you speak to us like that? You’ve clearly been playing the system. If you think this is just a misunderstanding, you’re sorely mistaken.”
Catherine’s eyes flicked to the math teacher, and she stood up slowly, the movement deliberate. “I’m sure the truth will come out eventually. But for now, if you wish to waste everyone’s time, go ahead. I’m not the one in trouble here.”
Her calm demeanor only fueled the teachers’ frustration. The principal, who had been observing her quietly, finally spoke, “We will get to the bottom of this, Miss Swann. I suggest you be prepared for the consequences of your actions.”
Catherine met his gaze without hesitation. “Consequences? You should ask yourself who’s really to blame here. You might find that it’s not me.” Her words were laced with an edge, and for the first time, a flicker of uncertainty passed over the principal’s face. He wasn’t used to being challenged, especially not by a student like Catherine.
Before the principal could respond, the homeroom teacher intervened, “We’ll deal with this later. For now, I want everyone to focus on the lesson.”
The tension in the room didn’t dissipate, but it was clear that Catherine was no longer an easy target. Bryan, standing by her side, exchanged a quiet look with her. He had promised to protect her, and he could sense that she was ready to take on whatever came next.
As the students reluctantly settled back into their seats, whispers continued to ripple through the class. No one knew exactly what Catherine’s next move would be, but they were all waiting to see how she would handle the storm that was rapidly building around her.
Outside the classroom, Rachael was busy plotting her next move, furious about her son’s condition and Catherine’s increasing power. She had not forgotten the promises she made to Johnathan, and now, Catherine had become the obstacle standing between her and everything she wanted.
Rachael knew that it was only a matter of time before Catherine’s luck would run out. What she didn’t realize was that Catherine was more than prepared for what was coming—and she wasn’t about to let anyone dictate her future, not even her own family.
As Catherine settled into her seat, the room slowly quieted. She closed her eyes for a moment, preparing herself for the challenges ahead. She was done playing by anyone’s rules. It was time to take control, and no one—least of all Rachael—would stand in her way.
