As Catherine sat down in her seat, the entire classroom fell into a stunned silence. The atmosphere was thick with anticipation, and everyone seemed to be waiting for something dramatic to unfold. Whispers rippled through the room as the students speculated about her, many wondering why she was still in school after what happened earlier that day.
Some of the students gossiped, mentioning Bryan’s notorious reputation for dealing with girls who dared to approach him. “Didn’t Bryan teach her a lesson already?” one student murmured. “How is she still here? She should’ve been gone by now.”
Others speculated that Catherine must be some kind of enigma. “I heard she’s cursed—like a jinx,” one girl whispered, looking at Catherine as if she were something to be feared. “Her family abandoned her when she was just a kid. She’s from the countryside, you know.”
Catherine didn’t acknowledge the whispers. She simply continued with her routine, unaffected by the murmurs around her. Her calm demeanor only added to the sense of mystery that surrounded her.
Meanwhile, Liana walked into the classroom and immediately froze when she saw Catherine sitting there, unscathed. She had assumed that Catherine would have been too terrified to return after the attack earlier in the day. But Catherine was still here—undisturbed, as if nothing had happened.
Liana’s heart raced, and her face went pale as the reality of the situation began to sink in. How could she still be here? Liana couldn’t understand. She had arranged for a gang to intimidate Catherine, to make sure she would leave the school for good. But Catherine’s presence in the classroom was a defiant challenge to her plans.
Catherine, sensing Liana’s shock, cast a glance in her direction. Her eyes were cold and sharp, making Liana instinctively lower her gaze. What is she thinking? Liana’s pulse quickened as she sat down and immediately pulled out her phone, frantically texting the gang she had hired. Why didn’t it work? she wondered.
But despite her desperation, Liana received no replies. There was no response from the gang, leaving her feeling more uncertain and panicked than before.
As the bell rang, signaling the start of class, Bryan walked into the room with his usual entourage, including his loyal friend David. The moment Bryan entered, all eyes turned to him. Bryan was an academy legend, a force to be reckoned with, and it was rare for him to arrive before the bell.
The students in the class whispered excitedly, wondering what Bryan would do to Catherine. After all, it wasn’t a secret that Bryan didn’t tolerate girls who tried to get close to him. It was inevitable that there would be some kind of confrontation.
But to everyone’s shock, Bryan didn’t act as expected.
Instead of confronting Catherine with his usual arrogance, Bryan walked up to her desk and studied her for a moment. There was something about her that seemed to captivate him, leaving him momentarily speechless.
Catherine, noticing his gaze, turned her head slowly to meet his eyes. Her gaze was icy, giving nothing away. She raised an eyebrow, as if to ask, What is it?
Bryan struggled to find his words, his voice suddenly hoarse. “Catherine…” he said, his tone low and hesitant.
The class fell into a deep silence, unsure of what would happen next. Catherine, still calm, looked up at Bryan with detached curiosity, not feeling the need to respond immediately. But Bryan wasn’t finished.
To everyone’s astonishment, Bryan bowed to her—deeply and sincerely. His entire group of friends, including David, followed suit, lowering their heads in respect.
The room went completely silent. Gasps of disbelief filled the air. This was the unthinkable—Bryan, the most famous and feared student at Loyalty Academy, was bowing to a new student. What is going on?
Catherine, however, seemed unmoved by Bryan’s gesture. She simply looked at him with an air of indifference, as though his actions were no more significant than the passing of time. Bryan looked up at her with a serious expression.
“Catherine, can we be friends?” he asked, his voice steady but full of a strange intensity.
The entire class was stunned. Whispers filled the air, with students murmuring in disbelief.
“Oh my god. Did Bryan just bow to Catherine? And is he asking to be her friend?” someone gasped.
Liana, too, watched in utter shock, unsure how to react to the scene unfolding before her eyes. What was so special about Catherine that Bryan was acting like this?
But Catherine didn’t react the way everyone expected. She didn’t smile, didn’t show any sign of flattery. Instead, she remained as cold as ever. Her face was as unmoving as ice.
“I’m not in the habit of making friends,” she said calmly, her words cutting through the heavy silence like a knife.
The entire class seemed to collectively hold their breath. No one could believe what they were hearing. Bryan, who had so many friends and admirers, was openly rejected by the new girl. And to make matters worse, she had done it so nonchalantly, as if she couldn’t care less.
Even David, who had always been loyal to Bryan, couldn’t help but feel uneasy. He knew just how terrifying Bryan could be when he was angered. To see him rejected so openly—it was hard to imagine what would happen next.
The tension in the classroom was palpable. Everyone was waiting for Bryan’s reaction, but Catherine didn’t seem the least bit intimidated. Her coldness only seemed to heighten the mystery surrounding her, and the students couldn’t help but wonder just what kind of person she really was.
Liana, still processing everything, couldn’t help but smirk. She thought that Catherine was done for, that this refusal would surely lead to her downfall. But as the silence continued, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something else was at play here—something much bigger than she had initially realized.
