The room was silent, the tension palpable as the figure that had crawled from beneath the sofa struggled to rise. The man, his face pale and contorted with fear, was barely able to keep himself upright as he gazed up at Catherine.
She stood still, her expression unreadable, her piercing gaze fixed firmly on the trembling man. He seemed to realize, in that moment, that there was no escape. The fear in his eyes was enough to make even the most seasoned criminals shudder. He had been hiding, waiting for the right moment to intervene, but now, he had nowhere to run.
“Do you really think you can escape me?” Catherine’s voice was ice cold, sending a chill through the entire room.
The man, still on his hands and knees, could barely find his voice. “P-Please… don’t kill me… I-I was just following orders…” His voice cracked, pleading for mercy.
Catherine didn’t react immediately. She simply observed him, her gaze unwavering, as if calculating whether or not his life was worth sparing. It was clear she had no sympathy for those who crossed her. The fear in the room grew stronger as the remaining men, still on the floor groaning in pain, watched the unfolding scene in stunned silence.
“Orders?” Catherine repeated, her eyes narrowing. “You think I care about your excuses? You’re all the same.”
Before the man could respond, she swiftly moved forward, grabbing him by the collar and lifting him off the ground with ease. His feet dangled, his body trembling from the force of her grip.
“No more lies,” Catherine said, her voice low and menacing. “You’re going to tell me where Joseph is, or I’ll make sure you regret it.”
The man’s eyes widened, his breath hitching as he realized she meant every word. “I… I don’t know… He… He left earlier… said something about… a hidden exit!”
Catherine didn’t flinch, her grip tightening slightly as she leaned in closer. “Hidden exit? Where?”
“I swear… I don’t know exactly… He said it’s somewhere near the back of the club, but only certain people know about it,” the man stammered, his words coming out in a rush. “Please, please let me go! I’ll tell you everything I know… I swear!”
Catherine regarded him for a moment longer, then, without a word, tossed him aside like a ragdoll. The man crumpled to the floor, gasping for air as he scrambled to get away from her.
Catherine turned her attention to the remaining men in the room. They were all watching her now, fear evident in their eyes. She didn’t waste any time. Without a second thought, she made her way toward the back of the club, where she hoped to find the hidden exit Joseph had mentioned.
The boss in the booth, still frozen in fear, watched her go, his mind racing. What had just happened? One moment, he had been in control, and the next, his entire operation had fallen apart before his very eyes. Catherine was unstoppable.
As she reached the back corridors of the club, Catherine’s mind was focused. She knew Joseph was close, and she wouldn’t let him slip away again. Every step she took was calculated, every move purposeful. The hidden exit was within her grasp.
And nothing—no one—would stop her from finding him.
